We Are the Process for 2011 PBR Art & Design Shirt-Off

September 15th, 2011 by Larry

watp_pbr_art_contest_entries.jpg

PBR asked us to submit entries for their 2011 PBR Art & Design Shirt-Off contest and we’re asking you to vote! CrowdTogether, the website that’s hosting the contest currently has our entries, but the images are very small and don’t do our graphics justice, so we’ve decided to post them here in full detail.

The submission deadline keeps getting mysteriously pushed back… So much for hitting a deadline! I had my entry ready weeks ago and was waiting until the last minute so as to NOT show my cards. But you can now see what I did and 1-up me if you like. Sigh… I guess it’s really not that serious.

The good news is: if you’d like to submit your own entry, you still have time.

What I’m really asking you to do is to head over and SIGN UP and VOTE for either of the following:
-We Are the Process: Blue Ribbon Pin-Up
-PBR Derby Winner

Check out large versions of our submissions after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Pabst is looking for fan created original art for a PBR t-shirt. Here’s how it will work, download the t-shirt template, add your design, upload it, then go out and get VOTES! The winner will be chosen from the top 5 designs with the most votes at the Graveyard Tavern on 09.26.11. For more details and official contest rules, click here.

Only catch is that everything has to be wrapped-up and submitted by September 5th, so act now. We’ll probably submit a few graphics. Just gotta dig through the ole’ bag of tricks to see what’s poppin’ off! You don’t have a bag of tricks? What’s wrong with you? Ideas for days folks… ideas for days…

Georgia’s New License Plate

August 22nd, 2011 by Larry

new_ga_license_plate_unveiled.jpg

You guys, THIS is the new Georgia License plate. WTF?!? I kinda want to throw up. No I definitely want to throw up. Apparently there was a “design contest” for residents to submit their designs to get narrowed down to semi-finalists by “art instructors”. You know what that really means? It means the state of GA decided that they would save money by NOT properly hiring designers. Instead they crowd-sourced themselves into this amazing piece of compromise. Yuck…

There’s so much grossness going on here. Visual noise between the “Peach State” type and the tree branches, the off-center “GEORGIA”, makes it seem like an after thought (and unbalanced), and finally the disregard for alignment between the plate numbers and the word “GEORGIA”. Yuck, yuck, yuck… If I had known about this “contest” I would’ve submitted a handful of designs myself. I also would’ve made all of my design students submit looks as well. We have a responsibility to get graphic noisemakers out of the public eye. You wanna know why some people don’t take The South seriously? It’s because too many people in The South don’t follow the process properly. C’mon people… there are amazing designers in Georgia. Why? Why? Why weren’t they tapped to give us a better solution?

Read this marketing jargon: “Georgia’s new general issue license plate will incorporate a “digital” (flat) design, meaning it won’t have raised numbers and letters. This new production process will result in a cost savings to the state and allow customers the option of having their license plate delivered to them instead of having to go to a county tag office. The “flat” plate technology will afford easier identification by Georgia law enforcement.” Translation: The flat plate will save Georgia money, but they’ll still charge you the same amount as always. Also, when was a flat plate considered a technological advancement? It’s not! It’ll just allow the police’s speed guns to function better… meaning more tickets for you! We ain’t stupid… stop feeding us the bs!

Wanna hear from the designer of the new Georgia plate? Watch the vid after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Evan Hawkins in Inked Magazine

June 8th, 2011 by Larry

One of my favorite bartenders in Atlanta, Evan Hawkins, was crowned the National Champion of the 2011 United States Bartenders Guild Drinks & Ink Competition presented by Tuaca. This not-so-usual take on a bartender competition combined the intersecting cultures of bartenders and tattoos with bartenders being judged on their Tuaca bold shot recipe and the overall craftsmanship of their tattoo.

Hawkins captured his first national bartender competition by beating out eight other finalists from the around the country to win a Tuaca photo spread in this month’s Inked Magazine.

“I’ve competed in several bartender competitions and Drinks & Ink was one of the most different and fun ones I’ve ever experienced,” said Hawkins. “I’m proud to have been recognized for both my Pura Vida body art and Tuaca bold shot and am stoked up to be featured in Inked.”

Hawkins won his first national bartender competition with his Pura Vida bold shot recipe and a tattoo featuring a sugar skull with the words “Pura Vida” under it. Pura Vida means pure life in Spanish and the skull is a candy given out on the “day of dead” ceremony in Mexico. For Hawkins, it means to celebrate your life and live the best you can before the end comes.

Vote for Gift Card Giver

April 12th, 2010 by Larry

gcg_pepsi_refresh.jpg

Our friends at Gift Card Giver are in the running for a $25,000 Pepsi Refresh grant. Instead of advertising at the Super Bowl, Pepsi decided to use that money to fund creative ideas. Gift Card Giver is in the running for the April competition and we need your help! All you have to do is vote for them.

Pepsi chooses the winners through voting. To win GCG needs to finish in the top 10 for the month of April! They are already ranked #31, which is GREAT, but they just need that extra boost from you guys.

To give context of the impact, last year we only spent $12,000 and gave $40,000 in gift cards away to organizations and people in great financial need. If we get this grant we can give away over $100,000 in gift cards this year. We have 30 days to get all the votes that we can! This is where you come in.

1. VOTE EVERYDAY for Gift Card Giver! It’s really easy! http://tinyurl.com/VoteForGCG
2. Follow the link and Sign up.
3. Then hit VOTE at the top right side of the website.
4. Tell all your friends to vote everyday for Gift Card Giver!
5. Vote again tomorrow & everyday in April

Thanks a ton for helping us! We can’t do this without you!

VOTE NOW!
